Tottenham make it 3-0 over Man Utd this season

That wasn’t the score but it does mean Tottenham Hotspur have won all three times they have played Manchester United this season. It’s actually the first time Tottenham have beaten United home and away since the 90s. Which is crazy to be honest, I will however put it down to the fact that Manchester United are having their worst season in ever but then again so is Tottenham (so far). Some were even calling this game the El Sackico, both Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amiron are under the most fire at the moment for already reaching double digits in the loss column. Let’s not go there though because there are a few things to unwrap in this game and I’d prefer to talk about that.

England call-up for Djed Spence?

Tottenham’s injury crisis has seen many talents come in and make a name for themselves, the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall come to mind immediately but a player who is showing his worth to the team the most is Djed Spence. Since coming off the bench in our game against Coventry City, where he scored that equaliser, he has filled in at his not-so-usual position of LB and he was been nothing short of spectacular. Locking up top wingers like Mohammed Salah and Bryan Mbuemo, with his strength, technical ability and his energy to burst forward with the ball we’re seeing a player with determination and courage emerge during a low point in our season. I hope you’re watching Thomas Tuchel because Djed Spence should be on your radar.

Venom and Madders are back

With our injury crisis slowing down we saw the return of two important players, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison. Immediately you saw how much this team missed Madders, straight away you could see he wanted the ball, with every attack being orchestrated by him, picking up the ball at the half and making those line-breaking passes. That was the kind of creativity we were missing and he even picked up the winner (hold that Roy Keane), I can’t believe some were saying he’d fallen out with Ange. And Vicario, I mean the performance spoke for itself, it was incredibly premature for fans to call for Antonin Kinsky to replace him. Don’t get me wrong he is a formidable no. 2 but Venom is still a better shot-stopper and he provides much-needed leadership in our defence. Good to have our leaders back.

Attacking dilemma

As much as we dominated that game, our inability to convert chances is going to come back to bite us when we come up against a better team. We’re already frail at the back but despite having the fourth-best attack in the Premier League we still lack that killer instinct up-front. Dominic Solanke is set to be sidelined till mid to late March and Mathys Tel is still adjusting to the team, some good news though, we were able to see minutes from Wilson Obobert and Brennan Johnson which provides some better options in attack and rotation will be key if we want sharp wingers. Hopefully, we can see more of Odobert and Tel together as they have a different kind of chemistry but only time will tell.

We have Ipswich Town up next and we all know what happened during that game. If we want to get a result our attackers are going to have to take the game to them, we know they like to sit back and hol up in defence so we’re going to need to be clinical with our chances. It’s good to be back to winning ways though, it’s amazing what a weeks rest can do for the players, also, the last article was a bit of a rant and a typical overreaction so fingers crossed we get the W so we can have more happy articles. COYS.
