Spurs win 3 straight in push to finish season strong

Tottenham Hotspur have won their third straight game in the Premier League beating Ipswich Town away 4-1. It’s truly refreshing to see more first-team players available and you can see how much of a difference it makes because Tottenham has been in the trenches for the last couple of months. Yes, it was a win against a side battling relegation but that same side took points off Chelsea and Aston Villa, not to mention they beat us in the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So happy days, let’s get into some talking points about the game.

Lucas Bergvall.

It’s no secret that the emergence of Tottenham’s kids has been the bright spark of our season but one player who started a little shaky, now looks like our main stay no. 8. That person is Lucas Bergvall. Now he didn’t adapt to the physical nature of English football straight away, some fans were even calling for him to be loaned out in January, but game after game he’s been playing with more confidence and is a lot tougher on the ball. For me, I felt a turning point was his performance against Newcastle United where he stood his ground against the likes of Joelinton, Tonali and Guimarães, from then on he’s been more confident on the ball, been able to carry the ball through the opposition and display his passing ability. This season has been great for his development and if he’s this good now, imagine what he’ll be like in 3 - 4 years.

Back-post Brennan is back

It is good to have Brennan Johnson starting again and against Ipswich Town he popped up with a couple of goals, including his trademark arrive at the back post to tap it in. Some Spurs fans will tell you that he doesn’t do much and honestly, it is a little disappointing when he can’t beat his man considering how fast he is but this season he’s on 13 goals so I’ll take it. I do feel he receives a lot of criticism but I know he has a role to play in the team and he’s been playing it well this season.

Importance of Spence

Honestly, we can’t stop waxing lyrical about this guy but Djed Spence is on a roll with these performances. Djed managed to grab his first Premier League goal yesterday but for me, he’s showing how important he’s becoming to the team. At this stage, he really is an undroppable player right now, which is going to be interesting going into next season as Porro has been our first-choice right-back since he arrived back in January 2023 and to be honest rightfully so, he has the second-most goal contributions for a defender since his induction into the league. Djed Spence however is much better in possession, a tougher defender and can move the ball out of tricky situations more efficiently, me personally I still think Pedro is our number one right-back but for the rest of the season, Djed Spence takes that spot while the defence isn’t at 100%.

Tottenham play Manchester City next and I know they’re not in the best of form but if we can take 3 points from that game, I think it’ll be a turning point in our season. City have managed to bring in a few decent signings in Khusanov, Marmoush and Gonzalez, so we can never underestimate what they’re capable of but we’re in a good run of form and I’ll always bet on us to beat any team. COYS.
