One foot in the final

Tottenham Hotspur have one foot in the 2025 Carabao Cup Final. With the run of form we’ve been in in the Premier League and the way the mainstream media have been chatting about the club you’d think a final is out of the question but low and behold Ange Postecoglou managed to get one over Arne Slot. And I don’t want to hear anything about how Liverpool didn’t field their first team and all this blah blah. Tottenham could’ve made a full eleven with the injuries and suspensions we had, so give us our f*cking flowers!

Anyway. Again I wasn’t able to watch the game but from what I heard we adjusted our tactics to the 6-3 thumping last time out against Liverpool and they worked as we won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from one of the young guns, Lucas Bergvall. Let’s get into my talking points from the game though:

Remember the name Antonín Kinský

Antonín Kinský was not a household name among Spurs fans. However, after the 21-year-old Goalkeeper, from SK Slavia Prague, made his debut against Liverpool, many will be calling for him to challenge Vicario for the number-one spot. After keeping a clean sheet against one of the best teams in the world, people will definitely take notice of the Czech keeper. What stood out the most in his game was his ability to distribute the ball in build-up play and his calmness under pressure, which are much-needed traits for goalkeepers in the modern game, this is what separates him from Vicario. No doubt, Guglielmo is our number-one keeper but word is that Antonín was brought in to provide competition for that spot and eventually take over in the future and having two keepers fighting for that number-one spot is something Tottenham haven’t had before.

Big week for Bergvall

After coming off a big performance against Newcastle United, standing his ground against one of the best midfield trios in the league, he topped it off with a performance to be proud of against Liverpool. The big talking point from the game was if Lucas should’ve been sent off for his challenge on Tsimikas, but the reality is that the call was a big shoulda coulda woulda because his first yellow card shouldn’t have been given as Luis Diaz clearly dived. However, what the media won’t focus on is that he is an 18-year-old who came from the Swedish top flight and is playing his first season in the English Premier League, going toe-to-toe with some of the best players in Europe. In his earlier performances of the season, some Spurs fans thought he couldn’t quite cut it and he needs to be sent out on loan but you could just tell he was adjusting to the pace and physicality of the game. The skill and technical ability were there, I just knew that if he got more game time his confidence would build and he would get better, and thanks to our injury crisis (unfortunately) we’re seeing him take control of these games which is what we needed. This is a player who will go on to do great things for this club.

End of the trophy drought?

Most rival fans will say they don’t care about the Carabao Cup as it doesn’t hold as much weight in the conversation of trophies but this run of games we’ve had is by far the most difficult any team has faced this season. We nearly blew it against Coventry City but prevailed, but after that we drew Manchester City, then Manchester United and then Liverpool and I mean those are three very tough fixtures (we still have to play Liverpool again at Anfield) but if we take it all the way, this will be a huge achievement for Tottenham because you have to beat the best if you want that prize. Some say Anges’ job rides on if he delivers a trophy but we’re still in three competitions so we’ll see what happens. Nevertheless, this season will start ramping up in the next couple of months.
