Igor Tudor. Interim Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur.
Another season, another coach sacked. Another coach hired. The cycle is never-ending and so annoying, but I think that’s modern-day football now. Unless you’re willing to back a coach with a vision, your club will be a constant revolving door of coaches. Tottenham Hotspur have managed to pick a specialist in mid-season coach appointments in former Juventus coach Igor Tudor. Whose last job was taking over Juventus before their current coach, Luciano Spaletti, it ended after an 8-game winless run. The reasons behind his sacking are beyond me, but as a Spurs fan, I’m only interested in how he can turn our fortunes around, so let’s get into that.
Aggressiveness
The way Tudor likes his teams to play is with aggressive pressing, and this kind of fight is what the club needs. We’ve been so passive this season to the point where it looks like we don’t even want to play for the badge, and that is something I can’t stand, when players are so nonchalant that they just can’t be bothered. I’m hoping Igor Tudor will provide a spark in these players and can galvanise them for the rest of the season because we can’t simply be fighting relegation, I mean that word, and Tottenham just don’t go together, maybe with West Ham United, but not Tottenham Hotspur.
Fight
One thing I’ve always loved about Spurs is the fight the team has shown when the going gets tough, and that is also down to the coach at the helm. I saw it when Antonio Conte took over when we beat the scum to 4th place, and that’s down to how much of an animated character Antonio was, and I feel we lost that fight with Thomas Frank. Igor Tudor is quite a friendly personality in the media. Still, on the training pitch and in games, he is very passionate, and I’m hoping the players will feel that passion and push on to finish the season strongly, since we’re also in the Champions League. Whether we get far is up to the players, but you never know what could happen come the end of the season.
Attacking Football
We never really had that feeling this season, where the football we played was the ‘get off your seat’ kind of football. Igor Tudor is very much a coach who wants his team to play front-footed attacking football with aggression and courage. We’ve unfortunately been hit with injuries again this season, so our attacking options have depleted exponentially, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have any attacking talent. We have plenty, but it seems Thomas Frank had chains on our attacking potential, so hopefully, Igor Tudor can unleash the talent we fans see. Xavi Simons has the keys; we just need the rest of the team to follow his lead, with a little help from the coach, that is.
Look, as much as rival fans and the media like to say we’re in a relegation fight, I don’t think we are. We’re going to stay up, but we need to show the league that we are Tottenham and we’re going to put up a fight. We’re more than good enough, and we have the talent to show it. I’m just hoping Igor Tudor can motivate the players to play for the badge, which is crazy when you need someone else to help the team show fight, but it’s the situation we’re in at the moment. I think we’re all looking towards the end of the season. Tudor is on a 6-month contract, so we know it’s not long-term, and the name on everyone’s minds would be given a warm welcome back but that is still a wee while away, so until then, GOYS.
