Frankfurt to be QF decider
Things ended all square at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Eintracht Frankfurt left London with confidence going into the second leg next week. Tottenham weren’t able to capitalise on the flurry of chances in the second half as our front-three lacked the firepower needed to put the game to bed.
Some bright points as the rest of the team held strong after standout performances by Pedro Porro, Rodrigo Bentancur and of course, our Swedish diamond, Lucas Bergvall. I seem to be highlighting Lucas a lot, but it’s not surprising because he’s really coming into his own, becoming that tempo setter for Spurs this season. A role that was primarily held by Pape Matar Sarr, Bergvall’s technical ability and creativity have shown to be the difference makers. He shows such maturity on the ball when under pressure, that he displayed one of the moments of the game last night. He received the ball from Sonny and turned two Frankfurt players, found space at let loose an insane shot that would’ve erupted the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had it not rattled the crossbar. It’s moments like that where he’s not afraid to make such risky moves and tries to make a difference, that is exactly the kind of attitude we need if we’re going to win the second leg.
Our front-three, whoever that’ll be, will need to be firing too. I personally would like to see Odobert and Tel accompany Solanke up front, we’ll need that flair to break down the Frankfurt defence. We haven’t reached a semi-final since that night in Amsterdam in 2019. To reach the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League would be massive for Ange, for the Club, for the players and most of all the fans. A lot of people have lost faith in Ange, but mine will never waiver. I still believe we can reach the final and end this disastrous trophy drought. Until then, we look onto Sunday, where we play Wolverhampton, a team who are trying to steer clear of relegation and would love to dump fuel on the fire at Spurs. I’m kind of numb when it comes to the Premier League, but nevertheless, we ball. COYS.
